Despite what everyone who sees the film may think, the book is not all that dark. The story is very lightsome, in fact. Jenner is only briefly mentioned as having already left the rat colony. Nicodemus does not die. Justin may or may not die due to poison gas (courtesy of NIMH) - the ending is a bit vague, but two rats do die of the gas.

I'd suggest reading (or rereading) the book. In the meantime I'll be waiting until it shows before passing judgment.

What a piec of crap! Because films such as G-Force and Alivin and the Chipmunks are doing well means that a Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH needs to be made? The whole reason that the original animated feature was made by Don Bluth was that it had a darker edge than Disney at the time...it appealed largely to adults and children alike. It seems that a remake now would make it into a 'kiddy' flick that would have ridiculous special effects and a silly 'Disney' moral message. I'm hoping for something a lot darker...but I guess we'll just have to wait...

The original book was Mrs. Frisby, when they came out with the movie in 1982 they renamed it Mrs. Brisby. You might want to look that up.
