If there’s one good thing that should come out of Comic-Con it’s comic based movie news! Over at /Film, they’ve put together the latest speculation and theories to come out of this year’s event. At the top of the list we have The Avengers movie! The film will be an unprecedented superhero team up movie, that will include Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, War Machine, Nick Fury and possibly Black Widow.
Marvel chief Kevin Feige recently spoke about who we can expect to make an appearance in the highly anticipated Avengers film.
I think we know. It’s going to be Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Nick Fury. I think it’s safe to assume that there will be some members of the Hulk universe in the film as well. In terms of the additional, I think Black Widow for sure. SHIELD’s organization for sure. And, again, what’s exciting to me about the Avengers movie are seeing those four characters together and interact with each other.
I love how he completely glanced over War Machine even though we saw him make an appearance during the Iron Man Comic-Con footage, and Don Cheadle has been signed on for the Avengers film for months. Also, where is the Hulk? I know I keep complaining about this, but was Edward Norton that bad? Was The Incredible Hulk ridiculously terrible? I’ve seen worse on both accounts. I just can’t see this team without him.
Moving on to another future franchise character, Captain America. Feige explained how his solo film will cover the conflicts of World War II, and international espionage!
Setting it in the Marvel version of WWII is going to open it up [to an international audience] in a big way. It’ll actually end up being our most diverse and our most international film. In terms of the cast there’s a group that [Cap] works with that will have an opportunity for much more international casting.
Marvel really wants Captain America to sell on an international level, and they’ve been toying with several ideas to beef up their storyline. “Feige mentioned a couple of other possible inclusions in the film: the organization Hydra, which is the classic foe of Nick Fury’s S.H.I.E.L.D. and Howard Stark, father of Tony.” I personally think we’re going to get some Howard Stark action in Iron Man 2. I’m just biding my time until I can gather more evidence.
What route do you think Marvel should take with their upcoming comic properties?
