Mad Men‘s Don Draper aka Jon Hamm continues to take a step in the feature film direction with his acting career. Last year he had a supporting role in the big screen remake of the sci-fi classic, The Day the Earth Stood Still, and now he’s moving on to The Town. According to THR, Hamm has signed on to join the film, which will co-star Ben Affleck who is also directing.

More on The Town after the jump.

The Town is a romantic crime thriller that will have Hamm starring opposite Affleck, and Rebecca Hall. The film is based on the novel “Prince of Thieves,” which was written by Chuck Hogan. The film centers on a banker (Hall) who has an on again off again relationship with a thief (Affleck). Hamm will play a by the book FBI agent who wants to use the woman as a means to get the criminal. The Town’s screenplay was written by  Affleck, Hogan and Peter Craig.

Jon Hamm will begin filming on the project this fall once he wraps production on Mad Men. It seems that his character will be a very straight laced man, who may wear a few suits…like Don Draper? Or maybe he will be one of those hip agents who wear jeans with blazers and tennis shoes? I hope that’s not the case because I’m used to seeing him dress well. I’m happy that he’s getting more exposure in the movie arena due to the success of his show. I have a feeling that we will be seeing a lot more of Mr. Hamm on the big screen.

What do you think about Jon Hamm joining the cast of The Town?
