The above image is part of the art for Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders’ new movie How to Train Your Dragon starring Gerard Butler, Jay Baruchel, America Ferrara and Jonah Hill. The film is an adventure comedy set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, based on the book by Cressida Cowell.  The story centers around a Viking teenager, who lives on the island of Berk, where fighting dragons is a way of life. With his initiation his one chance to prove his worthiness to his tribe and father coming, he encounters, and ultimately befriends, an injured dragon, and his world is turned upside down.

The movie is currently in post-production and will be released March 2010.  In the meantime, click below to see the full illustration from How to Train Your Dragon below…

So far, the artwork makes the film look rather mysterious and beautiful. With the light contrasting the dark, there’s a lot to take in with this simple image. I can’t wait to see more from it as right now it’s hard to tell if it will be something great or just another run-of-the-mill children’s movie.

What do you think so far, will this be a movie worth watching? What do you think of the cast?

I read the book and then passed it on to the children at a shelter because I think the story will speak to them. I absolutely loved the book and bought the 2nd in the series (How to be a Pirate) so I cannot wait for this film to come out. I'm an adult with no children but I always go to good children's movies like Up and Coraline and expect this one to be quite worthwhile.

This is a weird cast for a movie with a viking setting, and I don't like Jonah Hill that much. I'll wait for this on Netflix unless the trailer is very good.

Can't wait for this movie. Still another chance to be charmed and entertained by Gerard Butler.
Never miss one of his films.
