Picture 26 Daniel Radcliffe, James McAvoy, or David Tennant as The Hobbit?

How many accents does it take to make a decent Hobbit film? Several native U.K. actors have been rumored to be circling the Guillermo Del Toro adaptation of The Hobbit. According to FilmSchoolRejects, James McAvoy, Daniel Radcliffe, and David Tennant could be possibly sporting the infamous hairy feet for the film. Out of these three I’d like to tally up the pros and the cons of what each actor can or can’t bring to the table.

The Hobbit is slated for release in 2011, which may be a problem for Radcliffe’s Bilbo Baggins dreams. Since Harry Potter still owns part of his soul and youth for the next couple of films, I don’t know when he would find the time to film something as epic as The Hobbit. The Potter film series is coming to an end and it’s time for him to expand his career. I’m not sure if jumping to another fantasy franchise that’s also based off of a successful children’s book is the way to do it.

David Tennant is an actor best known for his work on the popular sci-fi TV series, Doctor Who. I tried to get into that show but I just couldn’t do it. This doesn’t have anything to do with his acting or the content, I just had too many shows on my DVR at the time. Tennant left the series not to long ago to pursue other projects, perhaps The Hobbit is one of them?

James McAvoy as we all know played the faun, Mr. Tumnus in the 2005 hit, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Once again, this is another film based off of a popular children’s book series that has juvenile characters at the center of it all. I think James McAvoy has unbelievable range, and he doesn’t come off as the typical Hollywood movie star. He has a likable, innocent quality to him that I think people are drawn to. If anyone of these three should play the lead in The Hobbit, I would say it’s him.

Not only do some sources believe that one of these actors could be named as Bilbo Baggins, but they think the announcement will take place next week at San Diego’s Comic Con! So much tension is in the air over this movie. I can’t wait until everything is put out on the table.

Out of these three, who do you think could play Bilbo Baggins?

i want daniel if only because he resembles elijah so much, and we all know that frodo and bilbo were relatives. but yeah, daniel's probably going to be busy for more months to come as he films the 2 part harry potter finale.

My vote would be for Daniel Radcliffe. Filming has already begun for the last Harry Potter, so this might well be a possibility.

I'd rather like to see a new face to this upcoming International Blockbuster.

I would love Tennant to be Bilbo he would be amazing in it he's a fantastically gifted actor but I think he's taller then Ian so doing all that trick photography like they did on LOTR would not work so it looks like McAvoy out of the three

Daniel looks far too young, he looks like a child. That would be bad casting. David Tennant would be terrific casting.

I'd say James McAvoy. I think Daniel Radcliffe has been overused and as the article says, needs to find ways to diversify his career.

hmmm. Yes Daniel does look like Elijah. I would choose Potter of the three. But I wish they would get a fresh face for the hobbit. What's next? Brad Pitt as Elf King?
