I love Alexander Skargard! He’s the son of actor Stellan Skarsgard and he currently appears on the hit HBO series True Blood. The actor will be making a big screen impression in the remake of the 1971 film Straw Dogs. According to Variety, Skarsgard will join James Marsden and Kate Bosworth for the film based on the Sam Peckinpah original.

More on Straw Dogs after the jump.

Dustin Hoffman was the lead actor in the original Straw Dogs and for the remake James Marsden will step into the role of David Sumner. Marsden will play him as a screenwriter instead of Hoffman’s astrophysicist. The story in the first film had Sumner and his wife move overseas to England to escape the escalating violence in America. In the remake that will be changed and they will move to Mississippi, the childhood home of his wife (I already prefer the set up for the original).

They will transport to the south so that the screenwriter can complete his work without the distractions of the Hollywood lifestyle. Bosworth will star as Marsden’s wife, and Skarsgard will play her ex-boyfriend, an former football star who thinks her return is an opportunity to “reclaim his glory.”

I’m extremely excited about Skarsgard’s casting in this film. He plays a villain like no other, and I thoroughly enjoy his portrayal of vampire baddie Eric Northman on True Blood. He’s a good looking guy, with a decent amount of talent that I think will fit this new role perfectly. The last time I saw Kate Bosworth in anything it was the film, 21. I kind of went on a diet off of her films after Superman Returns. I don’t hate her as an actress, but I thought her casting in that film was wrong, dead wrong. I’m ready to move on and accept her in something new. Bring on the Dogs!

What do you think of Alexander Skarsgard and Kate Bosworth’s casting in the Straw Dogs remake?

I'm really intrigued by this new project for Alex. It sounds like it's going to be a thriller. Can't wait to hear more about the flick!

This whole remake/re-imagining is quite puzzling I can't figure out if its good or bad. As for the actors I never feel like Bosworth is really strong in anything. Who knows if Skarsgard will be good, he has played quite internal characters before but I find him pretty good. This movie is either going to be spectacularly bad or it may surprise, who knows at this point. I guess it all comes down to how much the filmmakers/actors are going to compromise.

I beg to differ; recall the scene when Lafayette tells Eric he thinks Jason took the Vampire Eddie. Eric's response was heated and totally believable. Look up "Never Be Mine" on Youtube, feat. Alex, also. This shows he has a soft touch. (And he produced it, too!) For the series TB, his character has to be tough. He has become dulled as a result of seeing too much over his 1,000 years, and only after book six of the Sookie series, you can see that he starts to actually feel again. It is totally amazing. So for the next two or three seasons of TB, expect to see tough guy Eric in a variety of numb but violent scenes. Third book: after she is staked, in the King's compound, yummy. I can wait; there's no one who can compare to Eric/Alex for hotness. Name one. He was perfectly typecast.

You call CharlaIne Harris's writing 'great' ? You need to read more books.

As for Alex work as Eric I thought he did a great job turning an Arlequin novel kind of character into someone intringuing, sexy and dangerous. And he was fantastic in GK, it had nothing to do with his good rapport wit PJ Ransone.

Only the time will tell if he has range or not but he has proven that he's a good young actor. I'm looking forward to see Skargard in this movie.

Who knows if Skarsgard will be good he has played quite internal characters in the past so it will be interesting to see if he can pull it off. The whole remake seems so like such a bad idea you'd wonder why they would even attempt it. Its seems so bad that perhaps it might end up surprising everyone and be good… then again maybe not.

I'm a Harris book fan too and I don't think you can blame Alex or any of the other actors for what Ball has done to lesson some of the charm of the books. I'm having a hard time with the Sookie character on the show too. Alex seems to have good range in the few Swedish films I've seen him in. I think it's great he's finally getting a wider selection of projects in the US.
