Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster Team Up for Beaver
By Kara Stanford-Jones
Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson are teaming up for the film, Beaver. Foster is set to star and direct the film about a depressed man (Mel Gibson) who finds comfort in wearing a beaver hand-puppet. Jodie Foster will play the role of the depressed man’s wife. The script was written by Kyle Killen who topped the Blacklist (a list of the top 100 favorite and un-produced scripts for a given year) in 2008.
The financing for the $18-19 million budget has not been set at this point. It is unknown if any studios are interested, or if it will turn to indie studios for backing. Steve Golin and Keith Redmon, from Anonymous Content, are on board to produce the film.
This fact that the script has been received so well is a good sign. It is not totally clear if the movie is supposed to be a comedy, drama, or some combination of the two. It seems like it is leaning a bit more towards the comedy side. The last time Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster starred in a movie together was back in 1994 for Maverick, and that was fairly entertaining. All in all, I am hopeful that this movie will not turn out to be a total turd.
What do you think?

Why do are you hopeful that it won't turn out to be a total turd? Do you expect it to be? Because of Mr. Gibson? Or because it involves a character with depression?
