The elusive comedy-drama I Love You Phillip Morris has gained some marketing momentum with the release of a new poster. The film is directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa and stars Jim Carrey, Ewan McGregor, and Rodrigo Santoro. Morris has been at the center of much controversy due to what some call “a graphic depiction of intimate homosexual relationships” between it’s main characters. It’s such a lame and unfair reason to shelve a film, but it looks as if it’s picked up some steam. The film is set for domestic release on February 12, 2010.

I Love you Phillip Morris has been described as Catch Me if You Can meets Brokeback Mountain. In the film Steven (Carrey) is a closeted gay man who decides to leave his wife to embrace his sexuality. He becomes a con artist and lands in jail where he meets the love of his life, Phillip Morris (McGregor). He becomes so infatuated with Morris that he breaks out of prison several times to be with him. The film is a dark comedy, with touches of drama that ensue throughout. This poster screams irony. It’s so bright and happy, but you can tell that behind Carrey’s smile is a man yearning for his freedom, in more ways than one.
