After Paramount prematurely announced the release date for Transformers 3 for July 2011, director Michael Bay quickly responded by saying he never signed on to helm another film. I guess the Autobots and Decepticons have finally worn him down, because now that we’re approaching the release of the second movie, Bay’s future with the franchise has become a lot less certain.

According to MTV, Bay feels that he and Transformers have run it’s course. Surprisingly he’s looking for something a lot less action oriented for his next project.

“After the three and a half years I’ve spent making these movies, I feel like I’ve had enough of the Transformers world,” Bay told WENN. “I need to do something totally divergent, something without any explosions.”

Michael Bay not working with explosions? That sounds like blasphemy! His entire career has been based off of dynamite, car chases, and gun fire. Whether on not he decides to sign on for the film, the studio still plans on releasing it in 2011. With or without him, Paramount is staying on schedule.

Now it seems as if a short list needs to be compiled of Hollywood’s most efficient action directors. Even though Michael Bay has his issues with storytelling, he’s a maestro when it comes to directing excessive violence within the confines of a PG-13 rating. Some people are suggesting that McG could be a possible replacement for Bay if he chooses not to return. I wasn’t particularly satisfied with his work on Terminator Salvation, but he did direct a few good action sequences that I thoroughly enjoyed. At this point, I’m not sure what other director could follow Bay’s hard hitting style. Any suggestions?

Who do you think could replace Michael Bay for Transformers 3? Who do you think should take his place?
