About two weekends ago, while shopping for hip clothes at a local Urban Outfitters, my friend came up to me with a Transformers T-Shirt in hand saying, “You better buy your tickets now!” I didn’t think, much of it, but apparently my friend wasn’t the only person buying tickets for the film.

Michael Bay‘s summer blockbuster starring Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox is selling out with 45% of ticket sales on Fandango (the nation’s leading moviegoer destination) already belonging to this Sci-Fi thriller. The film is outshining Star Trek and even the original Transformers released two years ago.

Chief Operating Officer of Fandango, Rick Butler says:

“For nearly two years – since the last Transformers opened – this new movie has been one of the most highly-anticipatedfilms among fans on our site. Tickets for the new Transformers are already selling fast, so moviegoers should plan on buying their tickets in advance, as many showtimes are certain to see out next week.”

You hear it folks, Transformer movie tickets are going and pretty soon will be gone because opening week is more than a week away. But why is it that moviegoers are so anxious to see LaBeouf and Fox in action? Is it Michael Bay’s awesome job as director? Or the special effects the film offers? According to IESB, Fandango surveyed nearly 2,000 moviegoers who are planning to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and here is what they found:

  • 88% of respondents said they are fans of director Michael Bay; 66% picked Transformers as their favorite Bay film.
  • 77% of respondents say they were fans of Transformers when they were kids; 68% of those fans watched the cartton series, while 61% played with the toys
