It seems that Green Lantern screenwriter Marc Guggenheim really cares about die-hard Green Lantern fans. In an interview with SCI Fi Wire, Guggenheim assured them that the film will follow the comic book and the movie will focus on DC’s Silver Age Green Lantern, fan-favorite Hal Jordan.

“You know, there’s no desire on anyone’s part to completely change the character and just call this other character Green Lantern and try to…draft off the name recognition. This is all about ‘How do we bring the best version of this character to the silver screen?’”

Guggenheim explained that the goal of the film was to represent the Green Lantern character in the best cinematic way possible. The film will explore the origins or the character and how he became a member of the Green Lantern Corps. For Guggenheim, the big question is, “How do we bring the best version of this character to the silver screen?” The screenwriter doesn’t want to change the character, but rather let him be the Green Lantern known to fans in the comics.

Although there have been many rumors as to who will star in the film, Guggenheim dismissed the rumors and assured that no one has been chosen, but that negotiations are still under way.

Green Lantern is scheduled to show on the silver screen the weekend of June 17, 2011.
