Saturday Night Live and Parks & Recreation alum Amy Poehler may have made her mark on television, but she’s still got her hands in the feature film business. According to THR, Poehler has signed on to star and executive produce the film, Lunch Lady. Universal has acquired the rights to the children’s graphic novel series of the same name by Jarrett Krosoczka, which will be the basis for the film.

The first of the “Lunch Lady” books will be released this July, and will center on a school cafeteria server who along with her assistant, dish out food and justice. They both investigate suspicious and unethical activities that occur in and around the school. The story also features three youngsters who try to uncover the lunch lady’s “double life.”

This summer we can expect the novel releases of  “Lunch Lady and the League of Librarians” and “Lunch Lady and the Cyborg Substitute.” Later on this year in December “Lunch Lady and the Author Visit Vendetta” will make it’s debut. So far the only book scheduled for next year is “Lunch Lady and the Summer Camp Shakedown,” and that will appear some time next summer.

This sounds like good, clean fun for the kids. It kind of reminds me of Harriet the Spy from back when I was younger.

What do you think of Amy Poehler taking on the lead in a children’s series?
