Wes Craven Not Opposed to Directing Scream 4
By Krystal Clark
No pun intended, but when I read this latest news update I wanted to scream! For a while now there have been rumors circulating that there would be another sequel in the previously established Scream trilogy. At first there was talk of just one film, but now sources are saying there’s going to be another three, Star Wars style! According to MTV, creator Kevin Williamson is on board to write an all-new trilogy that will feature both old and new characters.
Check out original Scream director Wes Craven’s take on the idea after the jump.
Wes Craven recently opened up about the status of Scream 4, and what part he’ll play in the film’s production.
“[The Weinstein Company co-chairman] Bob Weinstein has talked to me, he’s interested in me directing it. I had a brief conversation with Kevin [Williamson], I know that Kevin is writing. What I’ve said to Bob is I’m not closed to it, I’m not open to it, I’ll be perfectly happy to read a script and tell him what I think. That’s where it’s at and I’m not expecting a script until August. I don’t know what the premise is or anything.”
To add on to this, original stars David and Courtney Cox Arquette’s casting is said to be “virtually set,” for the film and “everybody else will be new.” How exciting (shifty eyes).
This is insanity on so many levels. Obviously this isn’t going to be a prequel, because Dewey and Gail are (tentatively) returning, which means they’ll have to change the motivation of the killer. In the first trilogy everything stemmed from the actions of Sydney’s mother, but if Neve Campbell’s not involved who will be the central character? Will a random half sibling pop up and take over the reigns of the series? The screenplay is in the process of being written, yet I can’t think of one story that could prolong another trilogy, can you?
Are you interested in seeing another Scream trilogy? What new story can be told that can span three more films?
