I don’t know if I should be confused, afraid, or angry at the latest rumor swirling around the spin off film X-Men: First Class. As you may or may not know 20th Century Fox will be producing another X-Men feature with the help of writer Josh Schwartz (The O.C., Gossip Girl). The film will focus on a handful of students at Xavier’s School for the Gifted that may include Iceman, Angel, Colossus, Jubilee, Shadowcat, or Rogue. Rogue’s portrayer Anna Paquin recently spoke about possibly reprising her role as the mutant.

Over at IGN, Paquin was asked if she would be open to bringing Rogue back to the big screen for First Class, and surprisingly she said yes. The actress feels that the character should be infused with more of the ass kicking gene that we’re so used to seeing in the comic.

“I kind of find it ironic that I did three big action films and did, actually, no action whatsoever. I mean I got some really amazing emotional story moments, but I didn’t really get to do the physical stuff.” ”You know, as much as I loved doing those films I was kind of like, ‘OK, so when do I get to beat someone up? When do I get to steal some powers?’

I’m conflicted about this on so many levels. First of all, this “First Class” that they’re describing is not in the comic book. The timeline from the X-Men movies is already out of whack, but these character suggestions are all wrong. The comic book lists the first class as Cyclops, Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), Angel, Beast, and yes Iceman. In the first X-Men trilogy they introduced Iceman and Angel as teenagers so how are they going to fix that? What about Rogue’s age? I don’t know if Paquin can keep playing her as an adolescent.

As for Paquin’s complaints surrounding Rogue’s lack of action, I agree 100 percent. The character was greatly underused, especially in the third film. Rogue is a very strong person physically and mentally and they broke her down in the worst possible way. I wouldn’t mind the Rogue I know and love making an appearance on the big screen, but I don’t think this is the film for her to do it.

Do you think Rogue should be featured in X-Men: First Class?

forget first class, i think rogue deserves her own movie…Xmen Origins : Rogue. Staring Anna Paquin.

I concur. Rogue (the comic book Rogue) would be great in her own movie. They could definatley use the 3rd movie to amp her up for her own film. Maybe she encounters Mrs. Marvel when her powers are still inhibited by the cure, and her abilities kick in and cause her to get her flight and strength, when she is possibly coming in contact with Carol in an effort to abdduct Rogue or something. I would love to see a Rogue movie, and I am sure we are not alone.

i loved rogue from the comics and the 90's TV series. i was so disappointed from her portrayal in the films because she didn't have the powers of flight and superhuman strength, but was portrayed as a weak arse, but the main thing was her age was wrong in the films. Gambit is shown much older in wolverine origins. How on earth are rogue and Gambit going to have a relationship in future films? and whats with Rogue and iceman being in a relationship? I also don't like Anna Pacquin playing Rogue. It was not just her age or acting i didn't like, but her voice. i grew up on the 90's series and loved the sound of her American accent. As an Australian i don't know what American state it was (maybe one of the southern states?) but Anna Paquin doesn't sound close. Also her character should be sassy with attitude like the 90's animated series A new origins movie about Rogue with the red hair and green and yellow costume like the early 90s one and powers that she has after Mrs Marvel would be a vast improvement. from Joshua
