As an actor myself, and with the knowledge that both Craig and Jackman are stage actors as well as screen actors, I can safely bet that the reason that they are doing this is because they enjoy it. They don't need the money and there is no comparable experience to being up on stage performing. People tend to forget that the reason that many actors act is not for wealth and fame (although they are very nice bonuses) but simply because they enjoy it. That's why they're putting up this show. It is a shame about the probability of a limited run though, but we'll see.

Faroffbdwy: Very good. I didn't think of that. So why do this? Money? Public Relations for Bond 2011? Nice. So the wealthy get to see him on stage. The wealthy and the entertainment affluent are the only ones to watch...so now is DC a british snob? Or is the Aussie a snob? And the real public still put up the money to fund their movies-the real fans--they should give out some free passes for the "real fans" for once. But money begats money.

Jackman's a Tony winner already, and with Daniel Craig this should be an immediate sell out. The only draw back I see, is that with their schedules this is likely to be a very limited run (with these actors anyway). So unless you have subscription tickets and /or can set up a meet with the Pope on short notice, the average ticket buyer will end up waiting 6 months or more to eventually see the play with totallly different actors.

Daniel Craig is a classically trained theatre actor, having toured with the National Youth Theatre for several years in his teens and then studied for 3 years with The Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, one of Europe's leading conservatoires, in his early 20s. He was an experienced theatre actor long before he appeared in films or on TV. His last theatre role was starring on the London stage with Michael Gambon in "A Number" in 2002 before he came to the attention of the better class of directors in Hollywood with Road to Perdition. This play will not be "a change of scenery" for him, it will be like going back to his roots. Most people in the US think he is limited to James Bond, but in fact, he had wonderful quality career in the UK and Europe long before Bond, and that included theatre work.

Seems as though you're inclined to damn with faint praise. Yes, film and stage are different mediums, but there have been a few who have done well at both - Zero Mostel, Nathan Lane, Katherine Hepburn, among others.
