When was the last time Chevy Chase made you laugh? Sometime in the eighties, right? Don’t worry you’re not alone. The former funnyman is trying to settle back into his comedic groove by joining the off the wall comedy, Hot Tub Time Machine. According to THR, Chase has signed on to co-star in the MGM comedy that currently features John Cusack, Rob Corddry, and Craig Robinson.

Hot Tub Time Machine has generated a lot of buzz due to it’s obvious title and subject matter. The film follows “a bunch of unsatisfied guys who get thrown back to their younger days in 1987 via their Jacuzzi.” Chase will star as a mysterious repairman who may or not be behind their magical trip back in time. He will dish out advice to the younger men, but his motivations will be unclear. Hot Tub will also star Lizzy Caplan, Crispin Glover, and Lyndsy Fonseca. The film is currently shooting in Vancouver and expected to hit theaters in February.

Chevy Chase dominated the comedy scene in the seventies and eighties. First, as a series regular on Saturday Night Live, then as the lead in such film classics as Caddyshack, Fletch, Funny Farm, and National Lampoon’s European and Christmas Vacation. He tried to stay relevant during the nineties with his own talk show, but it was pretty unbearable. It was as if his comedic instinct packed up it’s bags and fled in the middle of the night.

Recently, Chase has been taking some steps into the right direction. He performed a stint on the NBC action comedy Chuck and co-starred in the Polish brothers’ Tribeca film Stay Cool. Chase is on his way back, baby!
