I thought this day would never come. A first look at the trailer for the remake of the 1992 Abel Ferrara film, Bad Lieutenant. The original starred Harvey Kietel in the title role of a morally bankrupt law man. While trying to solve a murder he exposes his own personal demons which include drug addiction, theft, and gambling. In the new version entitled, Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans Nicolas Cage takes on the lead role, and tries to do his best bad ass impression. It’s been a while since I’ve seen Cage in anything character driven, but this trailer doesn’t exactly blow me away.

Check out the video after the jump…

This is an unofficial release of the trailer for the film that’s directed by Werner Herzog. I see we have a Ghost Rider reunion with Cage and Eva Mendes, and I’m sure Val Kilmer’s just happy to be on screen again. The trailer looks as if it’s trying real hard to show how much of a despicable idiot, Cage’s character can be. It’s great for shock value, but what makes this different or better than the original version?

What do you think of the footage from Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans?
