First Photos From The Last Airbender

Two photos have popped up online from M. Night Shyamalan‘s live action adaptation of The Last Airbender. The film has caught a lot of slack from die hard fans surrounding it’s “suspect” casting, but these first images aren’t that bad. They feature Dev Patel as Zuko (above), the “fire bender” and Noah Ringer as Aang a 12 year old who can manipulate the weather. The film is based off of the popular Nickelodeon animated series and will debut on the big screen next summer, on July 2.

Noah Ringer got the role of Aang after he sent in a DVD of himself practicing martial arts. He’s a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and The Last Airbender will be his feature film debut. Dev Patel, who replaced original star Jesse McCartney as Zuko also carries a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He earned it way before he became an actor and star of Slumdog Millionaire. Airbender will be the first in a planned trilogy of films, so unless this film makes no money you should get used to seeing these kids faces for a while.

It's too bad the heroes got white-washed. Now we have a movie where the good white people have to save the world from the bad colored people. I wish they'd think these things through before specifically asking for white leads.

These two look pretty good to me. In fact, Noah seems the spitting image of the animated Aang. I heard that Shyamalan's trying to make a full multi-ethnic world, which sounds pretty good to me.

S'not his fault. He wasn't given much to work with in the first place. People are just so uptight about racism these days. Why can't people just get over themselves? I personally think Aang is adorable. I just hope they give Dev Zuko's scar -and put it on the correct cheek. It sounds like Shyamalen's doing the best he can, so give him some slack. Shut up about how you're upset because the cast is mostly white. No CHILD cares that EVERYONE in the CARTOON is WHITE, so STICK THAT IN YOUR JUICEBOX and SUCK IT!!!
