First Trailer for Sherlock Holmes
By Krystal Clark
The first official trailer for Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes has been released online. I have to say this is not your grandpa’s Sherlock. The film stars Robert Downey Jr. in the title role with Jude Law as his side kick Dr. Watson. They are joined by Rachel McAdams as the love interest Irene Adler, and Mark Strong as the villain Lord Blackwood. I’ll admit, I was in no shape or form excited about Guy Ritchie being behind the latest adaptation of the famous literary character. But after watching this trailer, it doesn’t look half bad.
Check out the trailer after the jump.
I love how amongst the old school British dialogue, RDJ still seems to bring out his sense of humor. Jude Law is surprisingly dead on as Watson, and am I the only one who notices that Zack Snyder-esque slow motion towards the end? Overall it looks pretty good, I think I’m going to give it a shot. Sherlock Holmes will be released in theaters on December 25, 2009.
What do you think of the first trailer for Sherlock Holmes?

Curious to see the reviews for this since Jr's last movie the soloist was a complete dud but he is working on iron man 2. Not sure how they are going to do this, make it more serious or more humble. Also with Will Ferrell coming out with his own version, curious to see how the two compete.

looks more like a bond movie than what Sherlock Holmes should be imho

Love love love. I've been a Sherlock Holmes fan since I was a kid, and this trailer does not disappoint.
@Craig, Have you seen the soloist? The trailers look good, but I can't seem to find it showing anywhere. I'm in the UK.

Looks good, but doesn't look like at all like Holmes. Why not just rename it and make it a new franchise, rather than throw explosions all over a classic and call it an "adaptation"?

If you think of the way the Holmes franchise was set up, being that many of stories were written by authors other than Doyle(making it the first 'fan-fiction), this can be considered an adaptation of the universe, where there's more explosions. I personally cannot wait for it to release.

I agree with Boris: it looks like a very fun movie, but the only reason for calling it Sherlock Holmes is based on box-office recognition.. and that's a little upsetting.
Also.. um.. I would have loved to see Simon Pegg in place of Jude Law. If Robert Downey Jr. is going to be a window-leaping, explosion-causing, skirt-chasing Sherlock, then it only stands to reason that Watson should be portrayed by someone skilled at showing incredulous outrage as well as studiousness and intelligence.

If you were a true sherlock fan, you'd know the trailer makes no sense with the stories. Holmes wasn't a great fighter, didn't use James Bonds-ish gadgets and tools, etc. This movie took the Sherlock premise- a crime fighting detective in old London- and then did whatever the hell it wanted with it. Sorry to say- Jr. doesn't even look like Holmes. – not that Holmes actually existed, but Doyle gave plenty of description and it doesn't match up. Last movie of Jr.'s (the Soloist) was a disappointment. Looks like it's going to be 2 for 2.
