Everyone should take a drink whenever Mickey Rourke gets a new job. It’s seriously turning into a regular occurrence, which by no means a bad thing. The man was out of work for 15 years so he’s got plenty of time to make up. He’s shooting a role as one of the villains in next summer’s Iron Man sequel, and according to FirstShowing, Rourke has signed to star in the remake of the 1980′s gangster flick, Mona Lisa.
The original Mona Lisa is a classic British film by Neil Jordan about an ex-con who finds work as chauffeur for a high class hooker… I mean escort. The film starred Bob Hoskins and Cathy Tyson in the lead roles, and the film earned Hoskins his first and only Oscar nomination. Can you believe that? Who Framed Roger Rabbit didn’t push him over the edge? Eva Green is currently in negations to star opposite Rourke as the escort of choice, while Larry Clark (Kids) will direct.
Rourke has so many features coming out in the next few years that his name will be prevalent for a while. I’m not sure how he chooses his parts, considering the most recent ones share a lot of similarities. They’re all gangster-types or bad boys with a heart of gold. Either way, I like Mickey and I hope he continues to make up for lost time.
Should Rourke try something different, or just be grateful that he’s getting work?
