He-Man has Found a Writer
By Krystal Clark
There are some film adaptations that I hope die and never see the end of the development process, and undoubtedly He-Man is one of them. We reported earlier on how there was a live action adaptation in the works for the vintage comic and cartoon character, but at the time a writer hadn’t been found. So what did the studio do? They wrangled somebody in to try and add a life to this thing. According to THR, Warner Brothers and Silver Pictures have hired a writer, newcomer Evan Daugherty.
Daugherty lucked up by landing such a big gig, being that his only writing credit is an unproduced screenplay called Shrapnel. Warner Bros are looking for this He-Man adaptation to be a lot grittier and will place Adam/He-Man as a soldier who’s fighting to protect the land of Eternia from the evil Skeletor. He will be accompanied by his trusted followers Battle Cat, Man-at-Arms and Orko in his plight.
Where’s She-Ra in all of this? You can’t have He-Man without the one female lead? Who’s going to see this without her? Why is this happening? A previous draft of the script was written by Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li), and from him they handed the reigns over to the new guy.
Marks is in no way amazing, so for it to be passed on from him, to someone who doesn’t know screenplays at all, makes me at the very least worried about this film. No, let me clarify, terrified about this film.
What do you think about the He-Man movie going full steam ahead? Should they do another adaptation?

If this movie ever happens, there is no need to have She-ra. You got Tela (sp?) there to fill any leading lady role. Adding She-ra is too much story overkill for one movie. Just stick with the source material of the original cartoon and make it translate to a modern audience (aka no tights or flamboyant costume colors). Castle Greyskull could look so badass in a live action setting.
