A sequel to this classic is not needed nor could ever live up to any expectation I would have for it! I totally agree that there are few writters in Hollywood that could do the sequel justice.

It might make a pretty penny though if done with any decensy

I thin any sequel needs to be done with the fullest respect for the original. Steven Spielberg is a master of his art and I think a sequel would do better than the Indiana Jones sequels. As long as they don't make more than one more.

I think it would have to be dark. Like, Sean Astin's character (or maybe one of the others) has spent the last 20 years of his life trying to find that ship and he's gone a little crazy. Somehow he talks the others into going on a Indy Jones / Lara Croft / National Treasure style ... maybe one of them stays behind and relays info from the house in the original. I think it could work but it would have to be an adult story for the adults who loved it as kids. It would have to have grown with the original audience. It would have to feel more dangerous and less fantastical. Less innocent.

Personally, I don't think a sequel would work (especially not with all the shitty writers that are working for all the major studios, now, and are writing the scripts for the sequels/remakes that are already out there!). And I shudder to think of the children that would probably be chosen to fill the roles of the original Goonies' kids (God forbid that Miley Cyrus should ever be considered! *shudders*). Nothing will ever compare to the original movie!

Actually I was about to trash the idea until you came up with the children of the Goonies aspect. A sequel would definitely never recreate the magic of the first, but like you said, Spielberg's a wizard, so I'd be interested.

Good or bad, I've been waiting for a sequal to this movie ever since I saw the pirate One Eyed Willy's ship float out to sea for the very first time! Hollywood makes sequels to the WORST movies, why not one of the best adventure films of all time?
