I think someone put a curse on Wolverine. First the leak and now, opening weekend, when it has a brief window of time to cash in on as much money as possible before Star Trek comes in and steals viewers away, movie theaters owned by exhibitors Cinepolis, Cinemex, Cinemas Lumiere, Cinemark and more have had to close their doors in Mexico City due to the deadly outbreak of swine influenza.

The theaters in Mexico have had to shut down due to a request from the Mayor Marcelo Ebrard, who has shut down nearly all public places where people could catch the flu, including bars, restaurants, theaters, and even TV audiences. It is unclear how long the theaters will remained closed and how many theaters will be effected. Since cases have been reported all around the US, many theater goers may be tempted to wait a few weeks before going to a theater.

Lemon Films co-prexy Fernardo Rovzar expressed stated:

“Films in theaters, whether they are in their first or 10th week, are suffering, and with them, the distribution companies.”

Source say that execs are listening to government recommendations and policies could shift day to day.

What do you think? Are you scared to go into a theater right now?
