Go ninjas, go ninjas go! Ninja, ninja, rap! I know I’m not the only one who remembers the Vanilla Ice song from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze! The last Ninja Turtle film we saw was the 2007 CGI version entitled TMNT. A film that I heavily enjoyed even though some critics panned it. According to Variety, we can look forward to seeing the Turtles in more live action fair, similar to their early nineties films. The Mirage Group owns the characters and are focusing on a live action reboot scheduled for 2011.

Find out more after the jump.

The new film will focus primarily on the origins of the heroes, and will mark the 5th big screen outing for the characters. Coincidentally the franchise reboot has been announced just as the 25th anniversary of the Turtles is about to begin. Tomorrow at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival the first live action film will be shown in their honor. The upcoming reboot will be produced by Legendary Pictures former chief marketing officer Scott Mednick and Galen Walker who worked on TMNT.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles first debuted in 1984 with their comic book, which launched an animated series, and a highly successful toy line. I personally love the Ninja Turtles. They along with the (Mighty Morphin) Power Rangers are serious staples from my childhood. I wonder how the suits are going to be constructed for the actors in the new film? In the early ones they kind of had this foam get up, accompanied by beady eyes. Whatever the material, they need to have enough room and flexibility to perform their acrobatic moves. Let’s make this happen.

Can you believe it’s been 25 years since their debut?!

What do you think of a Ninja Turtle reboot? Do you think it can find an audience with today’s generation?
