Last week I posted an article asking the question, who should be next in line to have their own X-Men spin-off? So much hype has been thrown in the direction of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool that I felt that producers forgot about the earliest X-Men Origins project, Magneto. Both Magneto and Wolverine were developed right after X3, but Wolverine got the upper hand. Since then the Magneto property has been dormant and not much has been said about its future. Finally one of the X-Men film producers opened up about the character and his possible solo film.

According to FirstShowing, producer Lauren Shuler Donner recently spoke about the Magneto film and it’s status. Her input wasn’t very clear or direct but it was something.”I don’t know,” she admitted at first. “We will do that. We all want to.” Magneto is a fantastic script, and hopefully we’ll make it.” After that being said she continued on by saying, “Honestly, we have all been just so focused on getting Wolverine out that we didn’t take the time to sit down and explore ‘What are the movies we’re going to do next within the genre?”

I think that response is complete baloney, but to each his own. She did manage to throw some honesty in the mix by suggesting the film’s future does depend on Wolverine’s box office success.

“I think this is partly to do with it, yes. And then we have First Class, which is based on the X-Men comics’ first class and is very literal to the title. It’s the first class in Xavier’s school. But that’s just being written. I haven’t even seen a first draft.”

First Class, don’t remind me. The X-Men prequel that concentrates on the first group of students at Professor Xavier’s school for the gifted. The film is being written by Josh Schwartz, the same guy who brought you the teen angst on the Fox show, The O.C. I’m not excited about that movie at all.

Will Magneto ever get his time to shine? They put First Class in front of him, First Class! This is beyond upsetting, where’s the justice?

Do you think Magneto should be fast tracked into production, or should it debut after First Class, Deadpool, Gambit, and 90 other X-Men spin-offs?
