Following in the footsteps of The X-Files and hopefully Arrested Development’s film adaptations comes the mega hit CSI. The CBS television show that gave birth to the genre of “procedural dramas” may be heading to the big screen. William Petersen who starred in the series for 8 seasons says “Yes, there will be a movie.” According to YahooTV, he states that a feature length film is in the works and of course his character Gil Grissom will be there for it’s debut!
Petersen understands that most shows make the leap to theaters after they end, but he insists that CSI has more story to tell.
“Usually people leave it till a series has finished —they did that with The X-Files and Sex and the City,” Petersen said. “But it’s about finding the right story, there has got to be a real reason to do it.”
“You don’t just do it because you want to make money — you do it because there’s a story that can’t be told on TV and needs to be told from CSI‘s perspective and the audience wants it,” Petersen said. “And we can’t wait for CSI to end or Grissom will be about 90.”
Even though Petersen left the show to pursue film again full time he seems to still have a soft spot for the character he played for over 8 years. After he left Laurence Fishburne took over the reigns as the male lead of the show. It’s an interesting switch they did with one another. Fishburne has actively been doing film for decades and decided to do a television series, while Petersen decided to go back.
Can you imagine the gore they can get away with in a theatrical film? So many boundaries will be lifted and who knows how far they’ll go!
What do you think of CSI: The Movie? Would you go see it in theaters?
