Can Angelina Jolie save the world? Can she she use her wit, and athleticism to take down the bad guys? 20th Century Fox sure hopes so! According to Variety, Fox 2000 has teamed up with Jolie and author Patricia Cornwell for a huge film deal. Fox has acquired the rights to the Cornwell book series based on Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a medical examiner. The studio plans to create several films featuring the character, which will have Jolie as it’s star.
With 16 books in the Scarpetta series there are more than enough stories to choose from. Fox 2000 are looking for this to develop into a full blown franchise similar to Robert Ludlum’s Jason Bourne property. Sources say the coroner will star in a thriller similar to The Silence of the Lambs and Seven. This deal is considered huge since Jolie is one of the most bankable actresses in Hollywood and Cornwell is one of the most successful women in literature.
Jolie as a coroner with a love for opera and a taste for crime solving? This is great casting for the film since Jolie has been more than open about her interest in mortuary science. I believe she once stated that if she wasn’t an actress she would want to work in a morgue. The darkness will be believable. I can see her in that setting and with that job. I wonder if it will be more thriller than action? She’s done both, but in my opinion she’s better with action.
What do you think of Jolie’s new franchise deal?
