Fresh off the heels of the second (final) season of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Thomas Dekker TV’s version of John Connor may have found another project to occupy his time. According to Shocktillyodrop, Dekker is nearing a deal to star in the Samuel Bayer helmed A Nightmare on Elm Street . He will play opposite Watchmen star Jackie Earle Haley , who is set to star as the famed child killer Freddy Krueger a role that was originated by Robert Englund.

The website reports that as of tonight Dekker is in “final negotiations” to co-star in the film. If he is confirmed for the cast he will join another young actor Kyle Gallner, who recently starred in the horror flick The Haunting in Connecticut. Nightmare on Elm Street is scheduled for release on April 16, 2010.

This is some good news for those of us who aren’t sure if we will see Dekker continue his run on the small screen as John Connor. His show has been receiving lackluster ratings and the finale that aired last Friday didn’t show much of an improvement. I hope the it pulls through, but if it doesn’t at least he’s got a back up plan.

What do you think about Thomas Dekker’s possible addition to the cast of A Nightmare on Elm Street? Who would you like to see star in the film?
