Since the “comic book movie” started to happen, actors have realized that being a part of one of them is a terribly smart thing to do. First off, you have a job for at least three sequels, and tons of people will spend their hard-earned cash for a chance to see their favorite comics come to life. This brings us to some current stories of celebrities who are fighting for roles in some anticipated comic flicks.
Brian Austin Green, of “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” thinks it’s a good idea for himself to play The Green Lantern. According to Mr. Green, Mr. Lantern should be played as more of a man, and less of a youngster. He’s putting himself out there, trying to meet with producers and such in order to get this role. In an interview with Comic Book Resources, he stated:
…It’s the first time I’ve ever really pushed for something the way I’m pushing for this. It’s odd, I was talking with someone about the way this all came down for me… I didn’t even completely know that the film was in the process and that they were getting it together. A friend of mine just randomly sent me a text message and he was like, “Dude, I just saw a picture of you as the Green Lantern online and it was awesome.” I was like, “What are you talking about?” He sent me the link, I went on and some kid had just put my face on a classic Green Lantern shot, the one of him standing, making the fist with the ring on the finger. It was funny because I saw it and I thought that it was pretty cool. At the same time, I’ve been playing a lot of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe and Green Lantern is one of my favorite characters. Then Megan [Fox] and I were sitting talking about it and it just kind of clicked. It made sense and I found it odd that somebody had mentioned it to begin with.
I don’t know. He may look the part, but it would seem to me that he is just trying to get a movie deal. He’s definitely trying to get and best of luck, but his competition is Chris Pine, or so it is rumored.
Now, Chris Pine (Abram’s Star Trek) is reported to be shooting for a role in the A-Team movie. He is trying to get the role for Captain “Howling Mad” Murdock. For those of you who have seen Smokin’ Aces, you remember seeing Pine as part of the memorably crazy neo-nazi trio. So, it would seem that Pine has a thing for portraying lunatics, which is pretty cool. Joe Carnahan, who is set to direct the adaption of the Mr. T show, has been said to have approached Chris Pine for the role of Lt. Templeton “Faceman” Peck. So, it is Pines job to now persuade the director to allow him to do a role he would rather play. I for one, would like to see Pine as Murdock. As long as he’s as insane as he was in Smokin’ Aces, I can see it being a reality.
Everyone is waiting for news on the Captain America movie, but it seems like all we get are rumors. There is one thing that is for certain, and that is the director, Joe Johnson. Johnson has directed such greats as Jumanji and Jurassic Park III. This sounds like a recipe for disaster rather than a step toward an epic comic movie. Since the clarification that Will Smith was not going to play the Captain, there have been new developments. Channing Tatum (G. I. Joe) is being said to be shooting for the role of the American flag wearing superhero. Obviously, this doesn’t mean that he will get the role, I mean (as far as rumors go) he’s up against Matthew McConaughey and, wrestling star, John Cena.
