Robert Pattinson, the Twilight heartthrob seems to be having some doubt on New Moon. He talked to IESB about the upcoming sequel and it sounds like he’s a little worried about the material. The first book was filled with love and sex appeal, but from that point on everything gets quite depressing, and Pattinson is wondering how they are going to be able to market a film like that (especially after the horrible response it got from everyone other than 12-year-old girls).

Check out what he has to say below…

“The book of ‘New Moon,’ the majority of it is incredibly depressing,” Pattinson told Reuters. “Obviously ‘Twilight’ was about finding first love and the difficulties of that, but ‘New Moon’ is really about loss and reconciliation, but the reconciliation isn’t completely full.”

“It’s a strange story to have for a market that, I guess, wants to see a love story,” he said.

I don’t think he needs to worry. Most sequels are depressing. Empire Strikes Back ended on several down notes, as did The Two Towers and Dead Man’s Chest. We all know it’s a vital step in the story structure. Plus there’s such a built in market for this film that there no way Twilight fans are going to miss this one!

Besides, negative criticism won’t be anything new for the Twilight series; the book series has gotten as much praise as put downs and the film was basically treated the same way. So maybe what Pattinson is really trying to say is the new films shit and he knows it. It’s one thing to take on the role when he’s a nobody and it’s the next big thing, but now that he’s got roles lining up, maybe he’s seeing that there isn’t much light at the end of the Twilight tunnel.

What did you think? Is this his “polite” way of saying the next film will be crap?
