Robert Pattinson must be Summit Entertainment’s golden boy because the studio is looking for the young actor to star in another feature for their company. According to THR, Pattinson is in early talks to star in the drama Memoirs. The film centers on “two lovers whose new found relationship is threatened as they struggle to deal with family tragedies.” Summit pulled no punches when assembling the production team for this film. Everyone from the writer to the director have produced some acclaimed works. Pattinson or R. Patts as the kids like to call him is playing with the big boys for this one.
Allen Coulter who directed Hollywoodland is being considered to direct Memoirs. He has been nominated for an Emmy Award six times for his work on the successful TV shows The Sopranos and Damages. If that wasn’t enough, Memoirs original screenplay will be rewritten by Jenny Lumet. The same woman who penned the script for Rachel Getting Married.
While this project is still in the early stages of development, Pattinson is busy filming the Twilight sequel New Moon. I’ll admit I haven’t seen a lot of his work so I can’t give a legitimate opinion on whether or not he can handle this Memoirs role. I do think it’s a smart move for him to expand beyond his current status as a teen idol.
What do you think of Pattinson’s turn in Memoirs? Will he be able to handle the material?
