Emily Blunt Talks About Losing Black Widow Role
By Krystal Clark
I think Iron Man fans everywhere should unite and let out a yell so loud it will shake the foundation of Marvel Studios. I know that’s a bit dramatic but it’s how I feel right now. The casting for this film has been wish washy from the start and one of it’s biggest conflicts surrounded the character Black Widow aka Natasha Romanoff. The Soviet spy was originally cast with British beauty Emily Blunt. Blunt has made her mark in Hollywood these past few years after her refreshing and hilarious performance in The Devil Wears Prada. The actress was set to star in Iron Man 2 before she realized the scheduling for the film coincided with her comedy Gulliver’s Travels. Enter Scarlett Johannson as her replacement.
Before the official announcement of Black Widow’s recasting, sources stated that Blunt was actively trying to make both films work. Blunt never spoke publicly about the situation while it was going on, but now that it’s over she’s ready to break her silence. In a recent interview with MTV the actress let us know what really happened and why she had to pull out of the Marvel film.
“It was one of things that was conflicting,” Blunt told MTV News. “So it’s a shame the two of them couldn’t work together. It just got complicated, so I think I had to pull out for my own sanity more than anything.”
So it got a little too crazy for the actress, and she had to bail. Blunt confirmed that she did indeed land the role, so I’m sure she saw a little something of the character’s bio. MTV tried to see if she’d spill any info regarding Black Widow’s role in the movie but their request fell on deaf ears.
See, that’s the other thing, I can’t give anything away on that front,” she said. “I’m not going to say! I’m not going to say! I’m going to get someone in trouble. Look at me, I’m such a goody-two-shoes!”
Darn! She gave us nothing. She’s talented and honorable. I feel like we really lost what could have been an awesome performance. Not to take away from Johannson, but I just don’t see her as Black Widow. Perhaps in the future when photos and trailers get released I’ll change my mind.
Do you think Blunt should have made both films work? Who do you prefer as Black Widow Blunt or Johannson?

Oh, that must have hurt to now be known for Gulliver's Travels instead of Iron Man 2. That's like missing out on touring with The Police because you already had a gig with Air Supply.
