Here’s something for the classic film lover in you. If you’re a fan of oldies but goodies Warner Brothers Studio wants you to have access to all of their premiere titles. According to THR, the home entertainment department of the studio has come up with a way for fans to get their hands on some rare classics that have never been released on DVD. The Warner Archive Collection allows you to search through a 150 films that include titles from Warner Brothers, RKO, and MGM. Just visit the website WarnerArchive.com, pick the movie you want and order it off the website. From there it will be burned to disc and shipped to you within 5 days.
The cost of an exclusive DVD will run you about $19.95 which I think is reasonable for an old film that’s not even in print. Plus you’re getting it straight from the source. The studio will increase the list of titles available by adding 20 new films each month. By the end of the year they plan on having over 300 movies ready to order. Another means to get your classic film fix can come in the form of a podcast. Warner Brothers will offer a podcast series entitled The Golden Age of Hollywood that will be available via iTunes. It will feature old interviews and other exclusive behind the scenes material.
As a die hard fan of “Hollywood’s Golden Age,” I must say I’m more than a little excited about this. I have a pretty sizable collection of classic films, but some titles I haven’t been able to get my hands on. In my eyes MGM and RKO represented the golden years like no other, so to be able to raid their library is like a dream come true for me!
