When I read this I honestly thought it was a joke. Anyone who reads this site knows that I have been watching the casting for Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables like a hawk. A few posts back I made a little quip about Stallone needing to hire Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris and Kurt Russell to make the cast complete, and I think he was listening…sort of. According to Moviehole Stallone did approach Russell’s people about starring in the action flick, but he was met with a less than enthusiastic response.

Stallone confirmed on the website StalloneZone that he did try to get Kurt Russell in the feature but the Hollywood middleman got in his way.

Stallone says, ‘’I know that many people on the site have asked for Kurt Russell. I asked for him too. Actually, I was taken aback when asked to put the request in a letter and send it to his agent. Subsequently, I was called back by the agent several days later after refusing to send a letter and he said Kurt Russell is not interested in ‘ensemble acting’ at this time. So, People, I came, I saw, I failed”.

A part of me wants to know if that was Russell or his agent speaking? Wasn’t he in Grindhouse not even two years ago? If that wasn’t an “ensemble acting” piece I don’t know what is. If Russell did in fact decide against a role in the film I guess I’ll have to deal with it, but his agent sounds like Ari Gold from Entourage. I don’t trust it. This whole scenario seems a little shady in my opinion, but for now we have to deal with it. Sorry folks, no Tango & Cash reunion for us.

Do you think Russell should give Sly another shot or did he make the right decision?
