Today isn’t just any day, it’s Friday the 13th – for the 2nd month in a row! If you’re the superstitious type, you’re probably locked up in a room with all your ladders and mirrors stowed away for safety, because you can’t be too careful on a day like this. But don’t stress yourself out by getting up and moving around too much – there are a lot of cracks out there to avoid. Instead just sit tight and keep reading.

Here’s a list of movies handpicked to comfort you on this harrowing day…

5. Serial Mom (1994): This cult classic, starring Kathleen Turner as a murder-crazed housewife, might seem scary at first. But keep watching – this shit is hilarious. It’s the kind of movie that just might make you realize that you’re superstitions don’t make the craziest person out there… I mean, would you kill someone with a lamb’s leg, or just because they wore white shoes after Labor Day? Just be comforted this isn’t your mother…

4. Slacker (1991): If you’re having a tough time coming to grips with your superstitious beliefs, take solace in knowing that you’re not the only person who believes in meaningless things. The Austin, TX-based characters in this film believe in some of the wildest theories, but don’t take my word for it, see for yourself – YouTube has the whole film available in its entirety, or you can just check out the trailer below…

3. You’ve Got Mail (1998): Alright, alright, enough the weird stuff to make you feel less crazy. Here’s one for the ladies… and maybe some fellas out there. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are the epitome of a ‘comfort couple.’ They’re even hugging on the cover of the movie! If you’re not ready to leave your house, maybe this will inspire you to reach out for some genuine human comfort – via e-mail of course. You can’t really deny that this scene is downright heartwarming, but “don’t cry, shopgirl. don’t cry”:

2. Weekend At Bernie’s II (1993): This classic follow-up to 1989′s Weekend At Bernie’s puts a hilarious spin on superstitious voodoo practices. If an ancient superstition can cause a dead guy to join a conga line, what’s so scary about that? That’s right – nothing. It’s hilarious:

1. The Jerk (1979): You might be somewhat of a scaredy cat, but at least you’re not a dumb jerk, like Steve Martin in this classic knee-slapping comedy. So just sit back and laugh yourself to tears until you pass out from high-hilarity exhaustion. When you wake up tomorrow, Friday the 13th will be over…

What movies do you watch when you’re trying to calm yours nerves?
