Do you remember Total Recall? The sci-fi thriller that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone? The film that’s probably best remembered for it’s exploding heads, and alien races is getting remade. I hope your not surprised. You knew this was coming sooner or later. According to THR, Neal H. Moritz of Original Films is nearing a deal to develop and produce a “contemporary” version of Total Recall. Find out more after the jump.
The 1990 version of the film was directed by Paul Verhoeven, who also directed Robo Cop and Basic Instinct. The plot of the movie was adapted from a story entitled “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale” which was written by Philip K. Dick. The story centers on a man who buys a virtual vacation from a place called Rekall Inc. He eventually ends up on a Martian colony fighting all types of aliens to overthrow a dictator, who’s controlling the planet’s air supply. It sounds crazy, but I loved every minute of it!
Producer Neal Moritz’ says his reason for revamping the movie has a lot to do with the technological advancement’s the film industry has made in recent years.
Calling Dick’s story “prescient,” Moritz said he hoped the advancements in technology and state-of-the-art visual effects can help tell the “Recall” story in a fresh way.
One can only hope. It sort of sounds like a cop out, but I’ll leave him alone for now. I’m personally very fond of my special edition Total Recall DVD that I have at home. You know the one with the Mars tin case?
