Isn’t it convenient that this story broke AFTER I wrote my article on Marvel and their casting problems? I wonder if my opinion had an effect? Probably not, but it’s good to dream. Last month we reported that Samuel L. Jackson would not appear in any of the upcoming Marvel films as the character Nick Fury. Fury, whom in the Ultimate Avengers comic universe is modeled after Jackson, is a S.H.I.E.L.D. superior officer who plays an integral role in the Avengers operation. Many fans and Hollywood insiders speculated that the reason Jackson wouldn’t appear in any of the Avenger themed films had to do with Marvel’s restricted budget.

Whatever the problem was it’s history now, because according to Variety Jackson’s back and he’s all about Fury!

The Hollywood trade is reporting that Jackson has indeed signed a deal with Marvel to appear as Nick Fury in Iron Man 2. Not only that, but there’s a possibility that he will make appearances in several other Marvel superhero films such as The Avengers, Thor, Captain America, and The Shield

If you’ve read the comics you know that it’s almost impossible for you to have any of these films without Fury showing his face. I think the individual films as a build up to the Avengers team-up movie wouldn’t be the same without him.  The Shield, is a movie that will be based off of the top secret espionage organization, which will star Jackson as it’s lead. As of yet, the film is currently in the early stages of development.

I knew Marvel would eventually come their senses, but as for you Mr. Rourke

Are you excited that Jackson will be portraying Nick Fury after all?

This is good news, I'm glad they headed in this direction. Though I wonder about the necessity of a Shield movie. But as for a title, The Shield? Is it going to be a cop drama starring Michael Chiklis?
