Sad news to report. It looks as if Mickey Rourke will not be co-starring in next year’s Iron Man sequel. According to IESB, Rourke himself confirmed that he was not attached to the film. The Academy Award nominated actor stated,”Right now, we’re not doing Iron Man 2.” That was straight to the point. Rourke didn’t clarify on whether or not money was an issue, or if he was up for a role at all. Yet, he did break some news about his participation in this year’s annual WWE Wrestlemania event.
Rourke must have felt like clearing the air, because it turns out he will be appearing at Wrestlemania 25, just not in the capacity we’d hoped for.
“We’re gonna go in support. Vince McMahon, Roddy Piper, and Rick Flair have been such a part of the movie … So whatever support I can give back to all those people from WWE, I’m gonna do that.”
So he”ll be there, just not in the ring. I’m pretty sure his low key appearance has something to do with his publicity team. They probably see Wrestlemania as campy, and low brow and they want Rourke to be regarded as a “serious actor.” I think it’s kind of hypocritical being that he got his second wind by portraying one of these guys.
As for Iron Man, I hope this film isn’t cursed. First, Terrence Howard’s recast, then Samuel L. Jackson out as Nick Fury, and now this? What’s really going on Marvel? I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to think that there may be some truth to these salary “rumors.”
Do you think Rourke left Iron Man over money? If so, is he in the right?
