A while back we reported that Transformers star Shia LaBeouf would star in the John Grisham adaptation, The Associate. At the time there wasn’t a screenwriter attached to the project, but according to /Film that is no longer the case. Academy Award winning writer William Monahan has been a busy bee lately. He’s directing his debut film London Boulevard, which will star Keira Knightly and Colin Farrell this summer, and now he’s been tapped to adapt the latest Grisham novel.
Here’s a little snippet of what The Associate is all about.
It’s a deadly game of blackmail. And they’re making him play. Kyle McAvoy is one of the outstanding legal students of his generation: he’s good looking, has a brilliant mind and a glittering future ahead of him. But he has a secret from his past, a secret that threatens to destroy his fledgling career and, possibly, his entire life.
Sounds deep. For some odd reason Shia Labeouf is the go to guy when you need someone to star in an action thriller with a lot of running scenes. Transformers, Indiana Jones, Eagle Eye, that kid is always on the move! For those of you who were skeptical about the film because of it’s lead, Monahan’s addition should ease some of your fears.
With the writer of The Departed on board, are you interested in seeing the big screen version of The Associate?
