Things are really shaping up for the comic book adaptation, Jonah Hex. Originally the film stumbled upon a snag with the shifting of directors late last year, but since then the project has been steadily moving along. Academy Award nominee Josh Brolin is attached to star as the title character, and according to Variety he will be joined by John Malkovich, as the film’s villain, Turnbull.

More on his character after the jump.

Malkovich will play Turnbull, a wealthy Southern plantation owner whose son is killed by Union soldiers during the Civil War. He blames Hex, a former confederate soldier-turned-hardened bounty hunter and gunslinger.

It looks as if Jonah Hex will be a revenge story on top of an avenger story of some sort. So much angst will be shared between these two! Hex will be directed by Jimmy Hayward, who recently helmed the Jim Carrey comedy Horton Hears a Who. The film’s screenplay has been written by Crank writers Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor.

On the corporate side of things, Hex has found a new producer in the form of Legendary Pictures. The company will co-produce and co-finance the film based on the DC Comic.

Are you excited about Malkovich’s casting as the villain in Jonah Hex?
