It looks like Nolan has decided to cash in on some of his success with Warner Brothers in order to pursue some of his own work.

According to THR Nolan’s next film will not be Batman 3, but will be a project which was written by Nolan himself. The film is titled Inception and is described as a “contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind.” The plan is to begin shooting this Summer release the film in Summer 2010. No further details have been revealed at this time, but don’t worry, we’ll keep an eye on it.

So, is this good or bad for Batman 3?

Well it’s a good sign for Nolan and Inception. Nolan will produce this film with partner Emma Thomas, who served as a producer on Dark Knight, which means it has a lot of potential. Plus, as many of you know, this is not Nolan’s first screenplay, he and his brother Jonathan earned Golden Globe and Oscar nominations for their script for Memento and Nolan and David S. Goyer earned a WGA Award nomination for that little film Dark Knight. So the thing has two huge things working in it’s favor.

As for Warner Brothers, they seem eager to keep Nolan happy, and are showing their support by financing the film, which means they obviously want a good relationship with him for later. Here is what Warner had to say:

“Chris Nolan is a visionary filmmaker who continually raises the bar with each movie he makes… We are thrilled to be collaborating again with him and Emma on this exciting new motion picture.”

And we all know after the mega-success of TDK that Warner won’t just let the third Batman get swept under the rug. It sounds like Inception will be pretty bad-ass and it sounds like we’ll get another Batman, just not as quickly as I know many of you would like.

What do you think? Is this good or bad news for you?
