Two more stars will participate in the big screen adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s Rum Diary. As we already reported Johnny Depp (Paul Kemp)and Amber Heard have signed on to co-star in the film, and now an Oscar nominee and Batman villain will soon follow. According to THR, Richard Jenkins has signed on to star in Diary as Lotterman,”the man who oversees the rundown newspaper where Kemp works.” On the other hand, Aaron Eckhart is close to finalizing a deal to star opposite Depp as the competition for Heard’s affection.
“Diary” is the tale of a washed-up, hard-drinking journalist named Paul Kemp (Depp) in 1950s Puerto Rico. Eckhart would play Sanderson, a wealthy landowner who believes everything has a price and introduces Kemp to a different standard of living.
Rum Diary begins shooting at the end of March in Puerto Rico. The film will be directed by Bruce Robinson, and co-produced by Depp, Christi Dembrowski and Graham King.
Jenkins is up for an Academy Award at this years ceremony for his role in The Visitor. He also starred in last year’s dysfunctional family comedy Step Brothers. Aaron Eckhart co-starred as Harvey Dent/Two-Face in the blockbuster The Dark Knight, and had a supporting role in the critically acclaimed Towelhead.
