Sid Ganis, the head honcho over at AMPAS is trying really hard to get people to tune in to this years Oscar ceremony. He’s been vaguely dropping hints that the show will be presented to us in a totally different way. First, it was the announcement that Hugh Jackman would serve as this years host instead of the typical seasoned comedian. Now, I hear that funnyman Judd Apatow will be thrown into the mix along with other unexpected filmmakers just to stir the pot.

According to Cinematical, Ganis has tapped Apatow to create an original short film to air during the ceremony. It will feature “fresh live material on stage,” and  ”filmmakers of all stripes will participate.”

Is it just me or are we starting to verge on gimmicky here? I understand that after last years unsavory ratings, Ganis wants to prove that the Oscars still has “it”. Ye, I feel that the biggest problem plaguing the show has to do with the Academy’s choices in nominees, not who they pick for filler entertainment. AMPAS may be showing us that their not stuffy by hiring the hottest comedic director to produce a spot for them, but still no dice. I’m not buying it. Will Hugh Jackman pull a rabbit out of a hat during his opening monologue? Who knows, anything for viewers, right?

Does Apatow’s involvement change your mind about this years Oscars?
