Jennifer Aniston and one of my favorite actors Jason Bateman are teaming up for a new romantic comedy called, The Baster. Yeah, it sounds kind of gross, but it has a funny premise. According to Variety, Aniston and Bateman will co-star in this “fertility based” comedy about a woman who seeks professional help in order to get pregnant. Bateman plays her best friend who interferes with the insemination process, and ends up becoming an unexpected complication in her pregnancy.
“The Baster” centers on a neurotic and insecure man (Bateman) who finds out his best friend (Aniston) wants to have a child through artificial insemination. He surreptitiously replaces her donor’s semen with his own and is then forced to live with the secret that he is the child’s real father.
Sounds like an uncomfortable situation, but let me guess what happens in the end. Both of their characters end up falling in love and raising the baby together as one big, happy family! Oh the predictability of modern day film.
The Baster will begin shooting this spring, and is produced by Albert Berga and Ron Yerxa. These are the two dynamos that brought us Little Miss Sunshine and Election. Aniston appears in theaters this weekend with another romantic comedy, He’s Just Not That Into You, while Bateman co-stars in the upcoming political thriller State of Play.
Both Aniston and Bateman appeared in the 2006 hit comedy The Break Up, which co-starred Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau.
What do you think? Are they a good combo?
