So much speculation is being made about Mickey Rourke and his involvement with next year’s Iron Man sequel. News broke last month that the Oscar nominated actor, and Sam Rockwell would both be featured as villains in the next film. Rockwell confirmed to MTV that he had been offered the role of Justin Hammer and he did accept. On the other hand Rourke’s involvement with the film has not been so cut and dry.
When Samuel L. Jackson confirmed that he wouldn’t appear as Nick Fury in Iron Man 2 or The Avengers, fans were beyond confused. He was the perfect fit! In the aftermath of this revelation,a few major film trades suggested that Jackson left over money. Marvel has been cutting back on production costs due to the economy, and the article’s suggest that Rourke has only been offered $250,000.
It’s been unclear as to whether or not Rourke is officially signed on to the film or who his character might be. Rumors had him pegged as either Whiplash or Crimson Dynamo, and it looks as if the latter is out of the picture. Robert Downey, Jr. recently spoke to MTV about Rourke playing Dynamo, and he stated, “That’s actually incorrect.” Downey wasn’t as clear when it came to confirming the role of Whiplash.
“I can neither confirm nor deny that,” said Downey. “Or maybe it’s some semblance of both. Here, I can tell you everything about the story except I won’t give away the ending. The nerd stuff is top-drawer security.”
Ahh, text book evasion. You gotta love it!
What do you think about Rourke portraying Whiplash? Yay or nay?
