I’ve been noticing a serious shortage in underwear clad superheroes and finally someone’s stepping up and representing for the Barbaric set. For a little over a year I’ve been hearing rumors of a He-Man movie hitting the big screen. It was always screenwriter this, producer that, but nothing solid. Oh, how things have changed. According to SuperHeroHype, He-Man is official, and they’ve got a director to prove it! Super producer Joel Silver along with Warner Brother’s Studio have chosen John Stephenson (Kung Fu Panda) to direct the film.
He-Man is a brawny prince who transforms into a warrior who becomes the last hope for a magical land called Eternia, which is being ravaged by technology and the evil Skeletor.
The Mattel property became iconic by way of the 1980s cartoon series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,” and the property was previously turned into a 1987 film starring Dolph Lungdren as He-Man and Frost/Nixonstar Frank Langella as the villainous Skeletor.
I must admit, even for the first film to be as campy and 1980′s as it was I can’t deny how awesome Frank Langella’s performance was as Skeletor. If Sir Laurence Olivier can play Zeus in Clash of the Titans, any other cheesy material is fair game. Yet, my major question is this, isn’t there a Conan the Barbarian film in the works too? Don’t they cancel each other out?
Who would win in a fight He-Man or Conan? I can’t choose! It’s like Sophie’s Choice!
