Remakes, remakes, remakes!! According to Variety, another version of the horror classic The Thing is in the works. There have already been two previous versions of the film, based off of the John W. Campbell short story, “Who Goes There.” In 1951 Howard Hawks directed The Thing From Another World, and in 1982 John Carpenter came out with his version simply entitled, The Thing. This next revamp will have a script written by Battlestar Galactica executive producer Ron Moore, and will be directed by Matthijis Van Heijningen.
It is set in a Norwegian camp and chronicles how the shape-shifting alien was first discovered and overcame the inhabitants of that camp. Strike Entertainment‘s Eric Newman and Marc Abraham are producing. David Foster will be exec producer.
The film’s director Matthijis Van Heijningen is best known for his commercial work. He’s done spots for Toyota, Pepsi, Heineken, and Visa. He’s currently developing another horror project over at Warner Brother’s entitled, Army of the Dead. That film will be co-produced by none other than Watchmen director, Zack Snyder.
The last Thing was released over 25 years ago and starred Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley, and Keith David.
