I just came across the news we’ve all been waiting for ever since the release of Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler. The film’s lead actor Mickey Rourke has been getting critical praise for his portrayal of the fictional professional wrestler Randy “The Ram” Robinson, and has received several awards and nominations to back it up. Thanks to the hype surrounding the film, and Rourke’s performance, we may get a chance to see fiction and reality go head to head at the biggest event in sports entertainment!

According to SlashFilm, Mickey Rourke told an entertainment reporter from Access Hollywood that he may be a part of WWE’s Wrestlemania 25.

The boys from the WWE called me and asked me to do it…I said, ‘I want to.’ I’m talking with [Wrestler] Rowdy Roddy Piper about it.  “Chris Jericho, you better get in shape,” Rourke said. “Because I’m coming after your ass.”

I definitely think he should do it! What a great way to cross promote the film and the event. They’re the perfect marketing match for one another. The distribution for The Wrestler like a lot of independent films, was a difficult and tedious task.  Rourke wasn’t considered a cash cow, and Aronofsky isn’t exactly known for producing blockbuster movies. So, check out the video below, for some info regarding the new model of distribution that was used to get the word out on the sleeper hit, The Wrestler.
