I just came across some disturbing news, regarding some future Marvel Studio releases. Remember when we reported that Samuel L. Jackson would NOT be returning as Nick Fury in The Avengers movie? Yet, we WOULD be seeing Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell as the two villains in the Iron Man sequel? Rumor had it that Jackson was dropped over money issues, which is the same theory that’s been floating around regarding Terrence Howard and his recast. Now according to Superherohype, there may be some truth to these rumors, and they’ve got the numbers to prove it.
In an attempt to buckle down on expenses during these trying economic times, Marvel Studios are offering some surprisingly low salaries for some of their biggest stars.
….there is comeback kid Mickey Rourke, who is poised to follow his Golden Globe-winning performance in “The Wrestler” with an offer to play the main villain in “Iron Man 2″ — but at a lowball opening offer of $250,000 from Marvel; Marvel’s tactics have already prompted Samuel L. Jackson to swear off playing Nick Fury because of a similarly low offer.
All I can say is… wow. I understand that things are tight, but $250,000? This isn’t an independent film, this is a huge tentpole for the studio, with a previous installment that brought in almost 600 million worldwide! I know Mickey is happy to be working again, but don’t take advantage of the guy. Yeesh! Also, Jackson is worth whatever price he throws out, the guy can act, and once again the Ultimate Avengers Nick Fury was actually based on the man! Oh, Marvel.
