Quick! Tell me the first thing you think of when I say Judd Apatow. I’m guessing that most likely your response is something along the lines of: Comedy? Producer? Seth Rogen? Acid trip? Stoner? I’m guessing you would have to go through a lot of those before you got to “horror film Director.” Apparently Apatow has been so successful with the comedy genre that he’s going to take a stab (pun intended) at a slasher flick.
According to Empire, Bill Hader, collaborated with fellow SNL writer Simon Rich, to write a horror script specifically for Apatow to Direct. They describe the film as, “Partially Straw Dogs meets Halloween meets Home Alone meets Monster Squad.” Sounds interesting. Hader goes on to say:
“It’s definitely about guys nowadays, that idea that you watch fucked up shit on TV… You watch fucked up reality shows, I love true crime shows. The idea of that thing coming to your house, and what do you do? I would shit my pants. That’s basically what the movie is about. What if that guy decided to come to your house. What would you and your dipshit friends do about it?”
Now the only thing left is for Apatow to take the plunge and make the film.
Who thinks this is a good idea? Should Apatow move into horror or stick to what he’s good at?
